Introduction to I Wanna Make Something

I work in an office with a lot of creative women. The woman who sits in the cube next to me is the most creative of all. She used to be a school teacher. Her mind is amazing. Her cube would make Martha Stewart proud. My boss is also very creative. She makes all kinds of things, t-shirts, pillows, crafty things. These are just two. We have a large group and I feel like the only one who is a complete blank slate. I started working with these women three years ago, just before Halloween. You cannot imagine how they decorated our workspace. It was even a competition between other departments. I have never seen anything like it. I loved it. It woke up that creative child inside.

My inner creative child has always been shy and unsure of herself. She wants to come out and play, but when she does her thing, it comes out looking like it was always meant to be an abstract concept of whatever it is she was going for. Pinterest has really got her believing that she just might be able to replicate some things and make the world around her a little more crafty and pretty. She has also started binging on YouTube videos of How to Crochet, and this is the one that she followed first. My inner creative child is about to explore and blog about it as she goes. I bet that she is not the only shy one. Maybe other inner creative children will find her and she can make some friends and everyone can have the best time making something.

Here is my first attempt at being creative. I am crocheting this blanket for my father for his birthday. I am not done yet, but it is definitely starting to look like something. His birthday is next month so I still have about 3 weeks to get it done. Here is what I have so far, and if any one else's inner creative child wants to give this project a  try, I found it on YouTube. Here is the link to this how to video:

I modified my blanket as you will see below. I did not use such a big hook and I did not use two threads of yarn, I only used one, so that is why it looks different. I did use a chunky yarn. I used LionBrand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. My foundation chain is a bit longer. I went out 81 chains on my foundation chain and then 80 for each of the additional rows. I am about 4 skeins in so far and my blanket is not nearly complete yet. I don't have a specific number of rows in mind. I am going to keep going until I like it, and just eyeball it where I think it should be done. My hook is an N/15 - 10.00MM

I have also worked with the same yarn and the same hook to work on making my first Afghan. The tutorial video for this is located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQDptwICjj4&index=5&list=PLCZmviw7EZXvj30LKjlI_HWFvvQAi2zu9&t=0s

I made my foundation link 120 chains, and I have also experimented with using two different colored yarns. Here is where I am on this so far:

I always click like on the YouTube videos I try out and subscribe to those channels. I am a little obsessed with crochet at the moment, so I will be showing future work as I continue on this path. However, there are lots of Pinterest projects I want to try so not everything I try is going to be crochet. I will be updating as I go and allow my creative inner child to skip through projects at her fancy. I hope you will come along to play.
